2018 WWE Hall of Fame Inductees: Dudley Boyz
2018 WWE Hall of Fame Inductees: Dudley Boyz
The Dudley Boyz are arguably the greatest tag team in the history of pro wrestling. No matter where they went, Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley always found success. The only thing left for them to accomplish is to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame; that finally happens this year.
The legendary duo first formed in ECW in 1996. During their three years as a tag team in ECW, the Dudley Boyz would go on to win the ECW World Tag Team Titles a record-setting eight times. Not only were they the most successful members of the Dudley Family, but they were the most dominant members of the company's tag team division.
We would see their success continue after they signed with the WWF in 1999. Bubba Ray would stutter during his promos, forcing D-Von to slap him in the back of the head. Eventually, Bubba would become known for powerbombing women through tables. Some of those women included: Terri Runnels, Mae Young, Tori, and Trish Stratus.
From 2000 to 2001, The Dudley Boyz would feud with the Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian in one of the greatest tag team rivalries in WWE history. The rivalry introduced the first-ever TLC matches at Summerslam 2000 and Wrestlemania X-7.
There was a brief time in 2002 when the duo was forced to part ways due to a brand split in the roster. They would eventually reunite, but in 2005, WWE decided not to renew their contracts.
Bubba and D-Von would go on to dominate Total Nonstop Action (TNA) beginning in September 2005. Due to WWE claiming rights to the"Dudley" names, the two would call themselves Brother Ray and Brother Devon. They would eventually start a rivalry with another former WWE tag team, The James Gang, Kip James (Billy Gunn) and B.G. James (Road Dogg). The two won multiple championships during their time with the company through 2013. In 2014, they were inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame.
After their departure from WWE in 2005, Bubba and D-Von participated in many promotions in the independent circuit until 2015. So, not only were they wrestling for TNA, but they were wrestling for companies such as: All Japan Pro Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and House of Hardcore.
Finally, the Dudley Boyz made a surprise return to WWE in 2015 beginning a feud with The New Day. The pop they got from the crowd that night was incredible as the fans were glad to see them finally come back home. Unfortunately, their run ended in 2016 with them not winning the tag titles.
Both men have retired from pro wrestling. Bubba Ray works for Ring of Honor, while D-Von works with WWE.
