2018 WWE Hall of Fame Inductee: Goldberg
2018 WWE Hall of Fame Inductee: Goldberg
As you all know, Goldberg was the first inductee of the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame class. After the career he's had as a pro wrestler, he definitely deserves the honor.
However, before his pro wrestling career he was a pro football player. He played defensive tackle for the University of Georgia and was later drafted to the NFL by the Los Angeles Rams in 1990. Unfortunately, his career was cut short due to an injury. Thankfully the injury didn't prevent him from being discovered by the world of pro wrestling.
Goldberg made his WCW television debut in September of 1997. He defeated Hugh Morrus and that was the beginning of his undefeated streak. During the streak, we saw him defeat people in two minutes or less. However, there's a lot of controversy around the streak. His streak is said to be 173-0, but it seems that WCW would drastically increase the number from week-to-week. So, it only made sense for his controversial streak to end in a controversial way against Kevin Nash.
Despite his controversial undefeated streak, Goldberg would go on to have a solid career with WCW. At one point, he was the highest paid superstar in the company. Surprisingly, WWE decided not to buy out his contract. His success with All Japan Pro Wrestling in 2002 is what got WWE to set their eyes on him, eventually signing him in 2003.
Though only signed with the company for a year, Goldberg would feud with the likes of Chris Jericho, The Rock, HHH, and Brock Lesnar.
Then, just two years ago, the rivalry between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar would be renewed. This led to Goldberg defeating Brock is one minute and 26 seconds at Survivor Series 2016. Watching that match live on the WWE Network was absolutely insane for me because I was not expecting it at all. The match would blow up social media that night and the next day.
Goldberg would go on to participate at the Royal Rumble, Fastlane, and Wrestlemania all in 2017. The night after Wrestlemania 33, we learned that Goldberg is not opposed to returning to the ring again, but only time will tell.
On top of everything that he has accomplished in football and pro wrestling, Goldberg has appeared in many movies and TV shows. I would have to say that my favorite movie he's been in is most definitely The Longest Yard.
There's no doubt that the man has had success in every career that he's been a part of. So, not only does Goldberg deserve his spot in the WWE Hall of Fame, but he's earned it as well.
